MAIL LIST

Salem resident Katy Bratun started her career as an artist seeking work as a children’s book illustrator. She was contracted by publishers in New York and has illustrated over 34 picture books to date. Her favorite, which she wrote and illustrated published by Harper Collins, is called Gingerbread Mouse.

Katy looks at illustrating picture books as an opportunity to indulge her artistic license and allows her to become the producer of a whimsical play. She ‘casts’ the characters by drawing them, her ‘sets’ are her storyboards and she loves to design the clothing lavishing detailed patterns and flamboyant hats on her characters.

Her color palette is derived from her childhood in New Mexico with saturated, warm colors and cooler, deep colors for dramatic contrast. The cultures, colorful art and textiles of Santa Fe and Albuquerque left a lasting influence on her as an artist. Currently Katy has been creating folk art animals from papier mache and wood which she paints or drapes with collected fabrics from her travels.

Don’t miss the opportunity to meet Katy! Her personality is as warm and inviting as her artwork!
